AUBURN — Auburn Adult Education has announced class offerings for January and February. Registration is possible by calling 333-6661, walk in during office hours, online at auburn.maineadulted.org or by mail.

General Educational Development (GED) and high school diploma classes will begin Monday, Jan. 30, at all locations. CNA registration is open as well as the CNA medication technician class.

Computer basics: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Feb. 6, for six weeks. This is a beginner computer course that will cover a variety of skills from opening folders to searching on the Internet.

Practical computer applications, 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, starting Jan. 30, for 15 weeks. This class will provide comprehensive hands-on knowledge needed to effectively use four components of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite. Students should be comfortable with the MS Windows operating system to enroll.

Certified medical administrative assistant, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb. 2.

Medical billing/coding, terminology and national exam certificate program, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for 20 weeks.

Medical transcription certificate program, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for 16 weeks.

Pharmacy technician training certificate program; this is an online (self-paced) program. Call for more details about all certificate programs.

Basics in Swedish massage, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Feb. 9, for six weeks. Designed for pairs/couples to learn and practice basic Swedish massage techniques. Head, neck, shoulder, back, arm, hand and foot massage will be covered.

Become a hospice volunteer, 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7, for seven weeks.

Beginning Ashtanga yoga, 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays beginning Feb. 27, for six weeks. This class is for students interested in learning the standing sequences of the primary series. In this class, breathing and proper alignment for a safe and effective yoga practice will be the focus.

America’s boating course, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Feb. 6, for six weeks.  The course will cover subjects from required safety equipment, navigation aids, lights and sounds, anchoring, communications afloat and more. An introduction to digital charts and GPS waypoint navigation, a key skill for boating on larger lakes and rivers and coastal waters.

Fly tying, 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays beginning Feb. 6, for eight weeks.

French for beginners, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 8, for eight weeks.

Heal your gut: heal your brain and body, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8. This important class addresses the connection between your gut, where 80 percent of your immune system lives, and your health.

Introduction to personal investing, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 8, for two weeks. Learning about the basics of stock and bond investing, mutual funds, EFTs, annuities, risk tolerance and diversification.

Middle Eastern dance (belly dance), 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 8, for six weeks.

Model railroading, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7, for eight weeks. This course will be taught at the Great Falls Model Railroad Clubhouse.

Nutrient dense foods for optimal health, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Oil painting for beginners, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for eight weeks. No drawing skills are necessary.

Reiki I, 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. Participants will learn the hands-on method for direct healing and receive an attunement that creates the channeling ability.

Sewing I, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 31, for six weeks. If you never sewed before this class is for you. You will learn how to clean and do some repairs to your machine as well as how to adjust the tension. You will learn how to insert zippers, make buttonholes, place cording and make a one-yard purse. (Some machines available.)

Sewing I in the afternoon, 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 31, for six weeks, at Auburn Public Library.

Sewing II, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for six weeks. If you have basic skills this class is your next step to making your favorite garment.

Sewing II in the afternoon, 2 to 5 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for six weeks, at Auburn Public Library.

Tai Chi for peace of mind, 6 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7, for six weeks. Students learn the gentle flowing Tai Chi movements and breathing techniques that help improve focus, balance, inner peace, blood pressure and more.

Weight loss/fat loss: The complete approach, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30. By balancing your hormones with homeopathy, you turn off your fat storing hormones and turn on your fat burning hormones. This dynamic class also teaches 10 additional principles that help you lose weight and fat and includes an entire eating plan based on whole foods, not processed foods.

West Coast Swing I: Introduction to WCS, 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 31, for six weeks. West Coast is a fun and versatile social dance. It is one of the most stylized and musically interpretive forms of partner dance, but no partner is needed for this class.

Woodworking, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 2, for 12 weeks. In this class you will create projects of your choice with guidance and assistance from the instructor. In the process, you will learn the safe use of a wide variety of hand and power tools.

Zumba, 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Thuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 31, for eight weeks. Two certified Zumba instructors will lead you in a full hour of Latin inspired dance fitness. You can register for only one day a week if that works better.

Facebook made easy, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 8, for five weeks. Learn the ins and outs of Facebook.

Word processing skills, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7, for five weeks. Learn how to create a wide variety of documents using Microsoft Word and OpenOffice Writer (a free open source office suite). Major objectives will be to master cut, copy and paste, saving, formatting and project-oriented approach with many hands-on activities.
