LEWISTON — A chili and chowder competition will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at L-A Harley-Davidson on Main Street. Sponsored by the Androscoggin County United Bikers of Maine, proceeds from the annual event will be donated to Advocates for Children.
The fee for adult competition is $5 per entry. Contestants enter a chowder and/or a chili to compete for cash prizes in differing categories. Cooks should bring a large crock pot or serving pot. Tables, electricity, spoons and small sample cups will be provided. Each entry must be served by its owner or a representative. There is no limit as to how many recipes each cook can enter. There will be professional judges. Cash prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners.
The fee for youth competition is $3 per entry. Children under 15 years of age are welcome to enter a dessert for competition. First-, second- and third-place medals will be awarded.
For chili and chowder voters, four sample cups can be purchased for $1. Additional passes through the sampling aisles can be made — four additional sample cups can be purchased for $1.
