AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services department at Central Maine Community College will offer a high pressure boiler operator course on Tuesdays, Feb. 7 through April 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Central Maine Community College. The cost is $475 and includes all materials and books.

The course provides participants with the knowledge and techniques to operate a steam generating plant in a safe and efficient manner. Basics of boiler design and control are emphasized as well as the importance of feed water treatment. Topics include day-to-day operations, steam turbine control and power generation, and environmental control parameters to meet emission requirements. The safe handling and combustion of natural gas, fuel oil, coal and wood fuel is covered. The course offers a practical approach to power plant operation and is designed to prepare the student for the state of Maine High Pressure Boiler Operator licensing exam.
