LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for anyone interested in learning about wills. “Making Sense out of Wills and Living Wills” will take place Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., Conference Room C.

Attorney Jill Checkoway will discuss the process of creating a will to ensure that state law will not determine who inherits your property and raises your children.

Home care training

BRUNSWICK — In response to increasing needs, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is seeking individuals who are interested in volunteering to help home care patients and their families.

The training classes will focus on volunteer opportunities that support patients receiving home care services as they recover from illness, surgery or a new medical condition, according to Kathy Baillargeon, volunteer supervisor. Grocery volunteers shop and deliver food and medications on a regular basis to patients. Visiting volunteers provide companionship and share in activities such as reading, card games, or music and transportation volunteers drive patients to appointments.

The four-hour training class will be held in Brunswick from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Wellness Room at Parkview Hospital.

Grief workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free grief workshop for cancer survivors, family and friends. “Life After the Loss” will take place Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., Conference Room H.

Jim Douglas, with Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, will discuss the process of grieving and introduce a model for healthy mourning and re-engaging with life. Myths about grief will be addressed along with developing a new identity after the care giving has ended.

Douglas, a community grief specialist, joined AHCH in 2004 as bereavement coordinator then as bereavement services supervisor. He earned a master’s degree in community agency counselor education from the University of Maine at Orono. He is also a recorded minister in the Religious Society of Friends.
