LIVERMORE — Barry G. Hanson, 59, a resident of Livermore passed away early Thursday, Feb. 16, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born July 4, 1952, in Lewiston, the son of George E. and Elsie (Bryant) Hanson. During his high school years, Barry excelled in baseball and football; and was president of his graduating class of 1970 of Livermore Falls High School. He continued his education at University of Maine Orono and was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Public Administration.

On Jan. 17, he married Pamela Couture LaFreniere at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was a patient. He worked for Hall & Knight in Lewiston for 17 years and later for Goings Electric in Farmington in the wholesale electric sales.

Barry was a member and Sunday school teacher at Wayside Baptist Church in Livermore and charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Turner. He was an AYS coach for baseball and football and followed all of his children’s sporting events, and served as part of the “Chain Gang” on the sideline downs markers during football games.

He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and riding his Harley. Barry also enjoyed cutting and hauling his own wood, summer days at the family camp on Brettuns Pond. Barry just plain enjoyed the simple quiet moments, and his faith gave him contentment in every aspect of life.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Hanson of Livermore; his daughter, Ivy Anthony and her husband, Scott, of Milton, Mass.; four sons, Ian Hanson of Alexandria, Va., Aaron Hanson and his wife, Anna, of South West Harbor, Drew Hanson of Raeford, N.C., and Dane Hanson of Canton; Pam’s children, Sarah Hayes and her husband, Andrew, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Renee and Chad LaFreniere of Livermore Falls; his brother, G. Larry Hanson of Turner; his former wife, Wendy Murphy of Canton; five grandchildren, Elle, Mae and Reed Anthony, and Noelle and Rein Hanson; his mother and father-in-law, Rene and Joyce Couture of Jay; brothers-in-law, Michael Couture and his wife, Cynthia, of Litchfield, N.H., and Dean Couture and his wife, Pamela, of Jay; sister-in-law, Lisa Kristy and partner, Tony Crawford, of Jay; and his faithful dog, Sophie.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Garry Hanson.
