AUBURN — Wallace L. Dixon, 91, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 17, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

Wallace was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Lewiston, a son of the late Harry W. and Alice (Lewis) Dixon. He attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School, Class of 1940. Following high school, he served his country during World War II in the Army-Air Force from 1942 to 1945, when he received his honorable discharge.

After the war, he attended the Brooklyn School of Optics in 1946, and began his career in the eye care profession. He lived in various parts of the country before moving back to Maine in 1967. At various times after 1967, he lived in other states, before moving back to Maine permanently in 2004.

On April 2, 1983, he married Gladys Barr. Gladys passed away in 2003. Wallace was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed traveling while taking great pleasure dabbling in photography, collecting numerous pictures of various birds with a special interest in seagulls.

Wallace is survived by his daughter, Nancy Greenlaw and her husband, James, of Sabattus; a granddaughter, Jessica Ouellette; and his brother, Harry W. Dixon Jr.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gladys; and a nephew, David W. Dixon.
