RUMFORD — Franklin G. Bean, 86, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Bethel, Sept. 20, 1925, son of Herbert and Naomi (Smith) Bean. He was a graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946, where he received a Purple Heart. He worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford on the unloading crew.

Franklin was a family man and family was very important to him. He was a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion, Jefferson Lodge 100; Knights of Pythias. He was and avid gardener and Red Sox and Patriot fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was married Dec. 24, 1946, to Ethel M. Pinkham, who died in Rumford on April 4, 1998.

He is survived by three sons, David and his wife, Patricia, of Rumford Corner, Laird and his wife, Corey, of Hanover and Andrew of Rumford Corner; two daughters, Sharon Thibault and her husband, Conrad, of Litchfield and Malinda Gallant and her husband, Timothy, of Weld; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, David H. Bean and his wife, Dorothy, of Florida, and Jonathan Bean and his wife, Suzanne, of Utah; sisters, Valerie Chapman of Belgrade, Alice Dale and Constance Bean of Florida; and a special friend, Harold Bessey of Rumford Corner.
