PARIS — Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon crash in Paris that happened less than an hour after the same woman crashed the same car on the same road in Buckfield.

Paris police officer Tim Gamache reported that Maria Alleano, 54, of Turner crashed about 2:30 p.m. on Route 117 in Paris near the intersection of Reservoir Road. Gamache said Alleano was westbound on Route 117 when she fell asleep at the wheel of her Chevrolet Trailblazer, crossed the center lane and drove off the road into a tree.

Gamache said Alleano was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital. No information was available about her condition Sunday night.

The crash in Paris was actually Alleano’s second of the afternoon, according to Gamache. He said that Alleano crashed about 45 minutes earlier in Buckfield, also while driving on Route 117. He said her car slid off the road into a snowbank in that accident.

He did not know if any crash report had been filed on that crash or if a tow truck simply pulled Alleano from the snowbank.

“She fell asleep. She had no idea what happened and didn’t remember any crash,” Gamache said.

Gamache said authorities believe that Alleano’s medication might have been a factor in the crashes. He said the crash remains under investigation.
