KINGFIELD — The Maranacook String Band, consisting of current and former Maranacook area students, is a professional bluegrass band led by nationally known bluegrass songwriter Stan Keach. The band will perform for grades K-8 in SAD 58 on Thursday, March 1. The community is invited to attend.

The band features the hot mandolin picking of Dan Simons and two outstanding teenaged lead vocalists, Julie Churchill and Lee Stetson. Bassist Zach Greenham and banjoist Megan Door round out the band.

As a key part of its mission, the Kingfield POPS brings outstanding musicians into the schools to inspire youths.

The schedule for March 1 is 10 a.m. at the Strong School for students from the Phillips and Strong schools. The Kingfield performance will be at 12:45 for students from the Kingfield and Stratton schools.

The Maranacook String Band played for the Downtown Arts Festival at the Kingfield POPS last June. This year, the band has been invited to perform on the big stage at the 10th annual Kingfield POPS on June 30 at the Kennedy Farm in Kingfield.
