“Where am I gonna go in the morning?” asked Dan Wyman, second from left, as he talked with regular customers at Leighton’s Neighborhood Grocery Store on Minot Avenue in Auburn on Wednesday. Store owner Harry Leighton, far right, closed the doors at 6 p.m. after working in the store for 56 years. Leighton’s parents, Frances and Harry, opened the store in 1956 when Leighton was 11. “It’s an old-school store,” said Kevin Lauze, far left. “My high school job is finally over,” said Dan Gurney, who has worked behind the counter for 28 years. Leighton broke the news to many customers just hours before the doors closed for good. “Harry always listens to my troubles,” said longtime customer Jerry DerBoghosian. “I’ll miss him more than I’ll miss the damn work,” Gurney said of his boss.
