LEWISTON — Lewiston Auburn Film Festival organizers have revealed the nominees for best feature-length film and other awards to be presented at the festival in mid-April.

People’s Choice awards will be presented for feature length, short, documentary and experimental films. Winners will be determined by a vote of festival-goers.

Film Festival organizers will also give out three awards, chosen by a panel of judges: Best Director, Best Maine Film and Best in Festival.

Nominees are as follow:

Best Film: “The Carrier,” California; “Children of Air,” California;” “Last Rung On The Ladder,” Maine; “Moment of Truth: The Andy Meyers Story,” New Jersey;  “Schizophrenic Love Story,” Texas; “The Selling,” California; “You Can’t Kill Stephen King,” Maine, New York, California.

Best Maine Film: “Among Trees,” “April’s Heart,” “Humanzoo,” “Last Rung On The Ladder,” “Question One” and “Welcome to Lee, Maine.”

People’s Choice (experimental): “Automata,” Australia; “Bein Hashurot,” Israel; “Colony Collapse,” Lewiston, Craig Saddlemire, Best Maine Film 2011 winner; “Elko,” Nevada.

“We are thrilled to announce the award nominees. It was a very difficult process as the quality of films submitted to this year’s festival was incredibly high, but our judging panel felt these particular films really stood out among the rest,” said Sandra Marquis, chair of the LAFF board.

The film festival taking place the weekend of April 13-15 will open with a concert by  Don McLean at the Franco-American Heritage Center. On Saturday, venues throughout Lewiston Auburn will turn their spaces into movie theaters for a day. Saturday will culminate with a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch. Sunday’s “Best of the Best” at The Public Theater will feature a selection of the winning films.
