In this society of Facebook, tweeting, fast access to weather reporting from coast to coast, I am seeing that today’s Mainers are becoming a bunch of whiners.

In my day, in Lewiston, I was one of the first ones on the bus, at the corner of East Avenue and Webster Street. The bus drove the length of Webster to the border of Lewiston and Lisbon, then went the length of Lisbon Street to Holy Cross School.

After school, the bus reversed the route and I was one of the last ones out. One big hill was scary when the bus was slipping and sliding.

School was never canceled, nor were the students let out early because of a snowstorm.

Meanwhile, the March 1 storm system produced major tornadoes that flattened whole towns; people were left homeless and lost everything.

Here in Maine, weather reporters are reporting “breaking news” . . . yes, the snow was falling, remain inside because it is dangerous out there. That is unreal.

It is just snow. Kids should just drop their phones, tablets, etc., and pick up a shovel and become true Mainers.
