LIVERMORE FALLS – Sixteen firefighters from here and Jay, and representatives of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded to a heating fuel leak at Lot 3 on 249 Fayette Road on Monday morning.

About 100 to 125 gallons of kerosene No. 2  leaked from a mobile home’s outside tank, Livermore Falls Fire Chief Gerry Pineau said.

The mobile home park is owned by Rick Webster and the mobile home is owned by Dale and April Leonard, he said.

They took delivery of 150 gallons of fuel on Feb. 29.

Dale Leonard woke up Monday morning and smelled fuel, Pineau said. He checked inside the mobile home and found nothing and went outside and saw the fuel, which was pink colored, had leaked from the tank, he said.

Leonard called the owner of the park who told him to call the Fire Department. The DEP was also called in.

Firefighters cleaned up the fuel and put it in plastic, 55-gallon barrels, Pineau said.

The furnace in the home was turned off and firefighters helped the homeowner drain the pipes, he said.

A crew from Jay Fire Rescue checked out the air in side the mobile home and determined it was OK, Pineau said.

Since there was to be no heat in the home for 24 to 48 hours, he said, he called in the American Red Cross to help the family, which will stay at a motel.

The DEP will come in with its contractors to clean up the cement pad under the trailer.

The call came in at 9:48 a.m. and firefighters cleared the scene at about 12:30 p.m. DEP remained at the site.

Livermore Fire Department were on alert to cover Livermore Falls and Jay in case something more happened in those towns.
