ROCKPORT – A former Jay man serving 15 years of a 25-year sentence for sexually assaulting a young Jay boy in 2006 died Tuesday at Pen Bay Medical Center, Maine Department of Corrections spokeswoman Judy Plummer said in a release.

Robert Storer, 74, had served five years of the sentence when he was transported from Maine State Prison in Warren to the medical center on Feb. 28 due to ongoing health issues, Plummer said.

Storer was 68 when he was arrested in September 2006 on six counts of gross sexual assault and one count of unlawful sexual contact and other sex-related charges.

He pleaded no contest in February 2007 to the six gross sexual assault charges and one unlawful sexual contact charge in Franklin County Superior Court. The other charges were dismissed.

Storer had repeated contact with the boy, who was under 8 years old at the time, according to court testimony in 2007. Storer met the boy through a church in Livermore Falls.

Storer had lived in Jay for a couple of years, after moving from Alabama, where similar charges were brought against him in that state.  The charges were dismissed, although Storer admitted to committing them to a Franklin County police officer during the investigation here, Franklin County Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said in 2006.

Storer was 69 when he was sentenced in April 2007 to serve 15 years of a 25-year sentence on one count of gross sexual assault and 15 years each on the remaining five counts, each to run concurrently. He was also sentenced to serve 10 years on the unlawful sexual contact conviction, which was also to run concurrently with the first sentence.
