SUMNER — Students at Hartford-Sumner Elementary School in Sumner are captivated by Canada.
School officials say all students in prekindergarten through grade six have been learning about their Canadian neighbors in their classrooms as well as in art, library, physical education and music classes.
At a recent schoolwide kickoff, Student Council members presented a skit about the provinces and territories of Canada. Students will continue their Canadian studies through March 16, when there will be sessions on traditional Canadian folk dance and music with the band Old Grey Goose, poutine and maple syrup sundaes for lunch and an afternoon concert.
The Captivating Canada Showcase and Spring Fever Reliever Dance will be held that evening with a variety of activities.
The school open house will also be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 16, along with the Scholastic Book Fair from 4:30 to 6:30. p.m.
A potluck supper will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by jigs and reels dancing and music with Old Grey Goose from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and sponsored by the Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters.
