OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District has inked a three-year power contract that could save the district about $34,700 in that time.

Superintendent Rick Colpitts told the Board of Directors on Monday that he has accepted a three-year bid of .0611 per kilowatt hour from Maine Power Options Constellation Energy for nine “medium user” buildings in the district. He accepted the bid after receiving the approval of the Operations and Finance Committees.

“We felt it was better to have a fixed rate for three years,” Colpitts said,  referring to uncertain energy costs and how they would affect the school district budget.

Colpitts said the district is currently paying .0822 per kilowatt hour and because the standard rate average for the past year was .072 per kilowatt hour, the bid could save the district $34,700.

The Board of Directors voted unanimously to give Colpitts the go-ahead to make the deal.
