WILTON — A Chesterville man is charged with domestic violence assault, aggravated assault and violating bail conditions after police say he stabbed a woman in the leg.

Carlton Elliott, 23, who more recently lived in Jay, was arrested on a charge of assault after an incident with a woman at about 7 p.m. Friday in Wilton, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said. At the time, the woman was too scared to tell police about the stabbing, she said.

When Elliott made comments about harming himself, police took him to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for an evaluation. While there, he verbally terrorized the staff, threatened to  stab a security officer and blow up the hospital when he got out of jail, Rachel Heseltine, Farmington Police Department secretary, read from the police report.

Hospital personnel told police they weren’t scared of him but feared he would follow up on his threats to harm the hospital, so Farmington officers were called in, she said. They added two charges of terrorizing, she said.

On Sunday, Wilton police went to the Franklin County Detention Center and charged Elliott with aggravated assault and obstructing the reporting of a crime. He took the victim’s cellphone away from her, Wilcox said, explaining the reason for the latter charge.
