OCALA, Fla. — Our beloved mother, Frances M. “Frankie” Gilmore, 71, died following a long illness at Ocala Health and Rehab Center, March 13.
She was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Bellshill, Scotland, the daughter of John and Ursula (Rackelis) Miller. She came to the United States in 1959, and worked as a nanny in New York.
In 1963, she married George S. “Bud” Gilmore, with whom she had three children. Together they ran the family business, Smokey’s Greater Shows for many years. Frankie later worked at Bangor Federal Credit Union.
Frankie was known for her excellent cooking and terrific sense of humor. She was a loving and supportive mother, and will be remembered for her appreciation of music and as a constant threat to spontaneously break into song.
She is survived by her children, Diane Peterson and her husband, Dean, of Ocala, and Andrew Gilmore and his wife, Susan, of Hampden; four siblings, Grace and husband, George Joyce, John Miller, Joseph and wife, Catherine Miller and Lawrence Miller, all of Scotland; four grandchildren, Drew Gilmore, Megan Peterson, Jackson Gilmore and Josie Gilmore.
Frankie was predeceased by her parents; and her infant son, John Michael.
