It doesn’t wield the instant fan recognition of 1,000 points in a basketball career or the same number of rushing yards in a football season.

Two hundred points in a college lacrosse career, however, happens far less frequently.

Ben Landry of Lewiston achieved that historic rarity on March 6, when the Husson University senior scored three goals and added an assist in the Eagles’ 7-4 victory over Anna Maria.

Now in his third year as a co-captain, Landry has scored at least two points in every game this season. Anna Maria represented his third hat trick, including a five-goal outburst against Massachusetts Maritime.

Landry led NCAA Division III in scoring as a sophomore. In 44 career games, he now has 163 goals and 44 assists for 207 total points.

The Maine Maritime softball team turned its Friday doubleheader at the University of Maine Dome into a game of home run derby.

Junior Sabrina Keach of Chesterville (Mt. Blue) belted a long ball for the Mariners in a five-run fourth inning of the nightcap against the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Keach’s clout immediately followed a two-run blast by Leah Jackson.

Jackson completed the game with her second home run of the game and third of the day to end the contest by virtue of the mercy rule, 11-2. It was the 13th homer of Jackson’s career, a new school record.

Keach is an anchor of the Mariners’ lineup in her own right. A second-team North Atlantic Conference all-star in 2011 as a sophomore, she led Maine Maritime with a .416 batting average a year ago.

SMOKING START

University of Southern Maine baseball senior co-captain David Ricker of Winthrop is off to the best start of his career.

Ricker is 9-for-17 for a team-high .529 batting average in four games. He has scored seven runs and knocked in six.

He has hit safely in every Southern Maine contest, including 4-for-5 in an 8-4 win over Farmingdale State and 3-for-4 in USM’s lone loss, 12-11 to Old Westbury.

RIDGE RUNNER

Senior midfielder Terissa Ridge of Rumford (Mountain Valley) scored a goal and an assist for the Thomas women’s lacrosse team in a 14-4 victory over Wheelock.

Ridge also matched a team-high by recovering four ground balls. It was the Terriers’ second win in three early-season starts.

REGIONAL HONOR

Bowdoin’s Jill Henrikson will complete her basketball career in style. The Polar Bears’ star is one of 21 players selected to compete in the New England Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Classic on March 24 at Western New England University.

Henrikson averaged more than 16 points and 6 rebounds per game while leading Bowdoin back to the round of 16 in the NCAA Division III tournament. She was named NESCAC Player of the Week on three occasions, topped the league in scoring and became the 12th player in school history to score 1,000 points.
