SEBAGO — Authorities in Cumberland County are strongly warning motorcyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts to use extreme caution while enjoying the summer-like temperatures following a Sunday evening crash in Sebago.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported that Harry Milton, 56, of Portland lost control of his motorcycle due to sand on a secondary road in Sebago at about 5 p.m. Sunday. While Milton’s injuries were non-life threatening, they could have been worse as he was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained a head injury and abrasions.

The sheriff’s office is asking motorcyclists to use extreme caution with spring’s early arrival. The department stressed that secondary roadways are especially hazardous right now because of potholes and leftover sand on the roads from the winter treatments.

The department also urged drivers to take added precautions and be aware of increased motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the roadways.
