JAY — Talks on a proposed $6 million municipal budget for 2012-13 will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, March 26, in the library of the Spruce Mountain High School North Campus.

Prior to the session with the Budget Committee, selectmen will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the library.

The spending plan represents a $227,263.60 decrease compared to the current municipal budget. After factoring in an anticipated $2.2 million in revenues, the net budget for 2012-13 is $3.8 million. The proposed net budget is $137,544.60 less than the 2011-12 net budget.

The bulk of the decrease in the overall budget is due to the town no longer having to pay Maine State Retirement.

Voters decided to pay that off last year when the Jay School Department left the town to consolidate with RSU 36 in Livermore and Livermore Falls. The amount included in the 2011-12 budget was $258,108 to pay it off.

A second night of budget talks with selectmen and the Budget Committee will be designated to proposed requests totaling $35,091.32 at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at North Campus high school library.

The proposed budget does not include RSU 73 or Franklin County tax assessments.

The town’s annual budget referendum will be held Tuesday, June 12, at the polls.
