A front page story in the March 15 edition of the Sun Journal cited an incorrect figure for the amount of property taxes state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin would have paid on the 10 acres of his Georgetown property currently enrolled in the state’s Tree Growth Tax Program. The precise amount can only be determined by an assessor, which to this point has not been calculated. In 2003, the year before Poliquin entered just over 10 acres in Tree Growth, he paid $13,652 in property taxes on his full 12 acres of land, with a tax rate of $7.67 per $1,000 of valuation. The current tax rate is $7.10. A revaluation had been done by the town, which took effect in 2003. No full revaluation has been done since.
