Wood might have been found in abundance near Hick’s Crossing in Norway Friday after the collision of the branch railroad from South Paris to Norway and A.W. Walker’s big double horse load of cord-wood. Owing to the poor sledding, Mr. Walker was having some difficulty in getting across the track, but had succeeded in dragging all but the hind sleds over, when he heard the train. Had the train been coming engine first, they would undoubtedly have seen the obstruction and stopped, but the coach was being pushed over and the engineer was on the back of the train. Consequently, when they reached Hick’s Crossing there was an awful crash, and two cords and a half of cord-wood flew like toothpicks into the air, landing in every direction within a hundred yards of the spot. It was expected after such a commotion that someone was hurt, but upon investigation it was discovered that not even the horses received a scratch.

Problems created for Lewiston by the purchase of a Canadian fire truck nearly three years ago might draw to a close soon if the firm’s bonding agent is willing to settle out of court, officials said. A long and complicated legal battle began in March 1985 when the City of Lewiston learned that Pierreville Fire truck Ltd. was bankrupt. Lewiston is trying to win reimbursement for the extra expenses incurred in buying the truck, in part through legal fees, and also because the city had to purchase equipment for it.
