LEWISTON — Police recovered a local man’s electric wheelchair Thursday, the man’s daughter said.

Dana Huard, 80, of Lowell Street said someone stole his scooter from the front of his apartment building at 3:35 a.m. Sunday.

Police called Huard’s daughter, Wendy Deemer, Thursday afternoon to say they found the missing wheelchair and have suspects.

Police said Thursday night they hadn’t charged anyone with the theft. An investigation is ongoing, they said.

Meanwhile, Deemer said she’s overwhelmed by the outpouring of sympathy and offers from strangers to replace the wheelchair.

“The family really thanks everybody who’s offered to help,” she said. “It’s just wonderful. It just shows there are still good people out there in the world.”

The Sun Journal, which featured Huard’s plight on Thursday’s Front Page, received seven private offers to replace the wheelchair, along with an offer from Goodwill Industries.
