OXFORD — Selectmen approved a liquor license for the Oxford Casino on Thursday.
With no discussion, the license for beer, wine and liquor passed unanimously.
According to the license application, the casino will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but state law will prevent alcohol sales there after 1 a.m.
Scott Smith, community relations director for Black Bear Development, told selectmen the casino is well on its way to completion. Workers are laying carpet and finishing stonework on the entrance. He said surveillance equipment has been installed, as have the bases for slot machines.
Most of the interior structure has been finished, he said, and trees have been delivered for exterior landscaping.
Smith said the casino is set to open in “late spring, early summer,” and that Black Bear Development is still aiming for a June opening. The application lists a starting date of May 28.
Construction on the casino began last fall and has continued through the winter. A blueprint of the casino included with the liquor license shows hundreds or slot machines and several game tables.
The Oxford Casino was set to be the first Maine casino with table games, but Hollywood Slots in Bangor has since opened table gaming and changed its name to Hollywood Casino.
The meeting opened with a public hearing for the license. No one spoke.
