FARMINGTON — Virginia Ruth “Ginny” Kittredge, 75, of Jay, died Wednesday, March 21, at the Sandy River Center for Nursing Care.

She was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Farmington, a daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Berry) Spofford. She attended local schools, graduating from Jay High School in 1954. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Jay. She lived most of her years on Canton Mountain Road.

Ginny worked for many years and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service, having served as the post mistress in Jay. She also served as the organist at the Jay Baptist Church, where she was life-long member.

Virginia will be greatly missed by many. She was a loving mother who always put her children’s needs above her own. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always had a special snack or surprise for them when they came to visit. Ginny took comfort and joy in visiting with and speaking to her only sibling, Patty and prayed consistently for her and her husband’s well-being.

She was a proud aunt to Patty’s children. She was a constant support and source of comfort to all who knew her. She listened and never judged. Always. She was a gentle spirit, generous and loving every day of her life. She has left a huge hole in all our hearts.

She is survived by her children, Susan Highland and her husband, George, of York, Joy Barker of Jay, Kevin Davis and his wife, Blanche, of Jay, Rick Spofford and his wife, Terri, of Pennsylvania, and Robert Preble and his fiancee, Terry Young, of Jay; a sister, Patricia Kilkenney and her husband, Russ, of Jay; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her loving husband since 1978, Brian Kittredge.

Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family and friends at www.wilesrc.com.
