MEXICO — Lillian Filiault Richard of Whitman Street, Mexico, died March 23, at home.

She was born Feb. 26, 1917, on Waldo Street, Rumford, the daughter of Roseanna Dubois and Origene Filiault.

She graduated from Stephens High School in 1935. She married Ivan Richard on July 8, 1940, and they shared 60 years of marriage. She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico.

Lillian worked at Dorion’s Market before her marriage and in the food service programs at St. Theresa’s School and SAD 43, retiring in 1982. She was a charter member of the Mexico Mothercraft Club and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Red Hat Society. She was an active volunteer throughout her life, first as a Brownie Troop leader and later supporting her children at Mexico High School through the music boosters and as a seamstress for many high school musicals.

Her passion for knitting started with knitting gloves for servicemen in World War II and continued with making hundreds of pairs of mittens and hats for Santa’s Helpers. She and Ivan enjoyed their retirement years traveling across the country and throughout Canada and visiting the British Isles. They wintered for many years in Honolulu and made lasting friends from around the world on Waikiki Beach.

She was a devoted wife, mother and Memere, who fostered a love of reading in her family, supported them in all of their educational pursuits and life goals and was very proud of their accomplishments.
