JAY – A local man was arrested Friday after police say he was caught stealing metal from Howie’s Welding and Fabrication on Route 4 in Jay.
Jay officer Mike Mejia arrested Todd P. Sullivan, 20, on charges of theft and violation of condition of release, Chief Larry White Sr. said Monday.
Sullivan appeared in Farmington District Court on Monday. His bail was set at $1,000 cash and he is prohibited from going to Howie’s Welding.
Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson said Sullivan is already on a deferred disposition for possession of illegal drugs and burglary in Franklin and Oxford counties, respectively.
He also has another charge of theft, Robinson said.
Sullivan was charged with theft and illegal possession of liquor by a minor after he and a co-defendant were caught on security video taking liquor from a grocery store after hours earlier this year.
Sullivan admitted to stealing and damaging golf carts with another co-defendant from Oakdale Country Club in Mexico in June 2010.
Robinson told the court Monday that he plans to file a motion to revoke bail.
White said after court that officer Mejia had spotted a truck exiting very slowly from Howie’s Welding. Mejia noticed the license plate light was defective and the plate was covered with dirt, White said.
Mejia stopped the truck. He spoke to Sullivan and said he acted nervous, White said.
Mejia noticed a piece of steel in the back of the truck.
Officer Russell Adams noticed that an area where a piece of steel was missing from Howie’s. They matched the footprints to Sullivan’s and also the size of the steel in the truck to that that was missing from Howie’s, White said.
