LEWISTON — A Portland woman died in a car crash on Route 100 in Gray on Wednesday, authorities said.
Elizabeth Polletto, 26, was driving north on Portland Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. when she apparently lost control of a 1999 silver Ford Escort because of slush in the roadway. The car spun into the path of a 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup driven by John Hanley, 57, of Raymond, who was headed sound.
Polletto was rushed to Maine Medical Center in Portland where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Hanley also was taken to the Portland hospital, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, authorities said. The air bag in the pickup truck deployed.
The accident closed Portland Road, but it was reopened later in the morning.
