LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women announces a new addition to its weekly schedule, a fibromyalgia support group.
Crigen Richards, a person with fibromyalgia and teacher for 33 years, will lead the weekly group beginning Thursday, April 5. It will meet from 1 to 2 p.m.
Members will learn to support each other and cope with all the aspects of living with the illness. Anyone who has a diagnosis of fibromyalgia is welcome to join the group.
Other support groups meet on Tuesday afternoons, including the Wisdom Circle with Sarah Wood from the Sexual Assault Crisis Center, and a new group called “Beating the Blues,” meeting on alternate weeks. That group will use a book, “How I Stayed Alive When My Brain Was Trying to Kill Me: One Person’s Guide to Suicide Prevention,” by Susan Rose Baluner.
Morning programs are held daily from 10-11:30. The monthly Wise Woman Cooking Club will meet on Tuesday, April 3, with Denise Dill from the Nutrition Center. On April 17 a group will bake bread and make a soup.
Craft classes include a traveling altar project on Wednesday, April 18, with Sarah Shepley, as well as scrapbooking and painting classes. Bingo is set for Tuesday, April 24, and the April birthday party will be held Friday, April 27.
Student nurses will host a class on Reiki and Yoga for Beginners on Thursday, April 12,, and a Healthy Food Party on Thursday, April 26.
Lise Pellitier will lead a discussion on co-dependency at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20. The center hosts a weekly Al-Anon group for women at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays. Other regular programs include the writers workshop on Monday mornings, a poetry lunch on Tuesdays, and a story or art lunch on Thursdays. Various options at 1 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays include games, singing and relaxing activities.
An oatmeal breakfast and personal hygiene items are available upon request. The center opens at 9 a.m. weekdays and closes at 3 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and at noon Wednesdays and Fridays.
