DIXFIELD — Kathleen “Kay” Barker, 83, of Dixfield, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side, Thursday, March 29, at her home.
She was born June 26, 1928, in Rumford Corner, the daughter of Ethel and Llewellyn Buck. On July 10, 1976, she married her beloved Roland C Barker, at the American Legion in Dixfield.
She was an amazing and strong woman, who would do anything for anyone. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
She worked as a cook at “The Corner Lunch,” “Freddy’s” and “Sally’s Diner.” She also delivered newspapers for many years with her husband. Roland, for the Sun Journal. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 100, where she held multiple offices. She was a member of the Grange, which she also enjoyed.
She was an avid bingo and cribbage player. She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and word books. She loved watching the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and WWF. She loved anytime spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy and Linda Pingree, both of Dixfield; a special son-in-law, Herb Courtney of Dixfield; grandchildren, Brian, Robert Jr., April, Susan, Ashley, Terry, Jeff, Kevin, Scott, Amy and Jocelyn; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Annabelle, Peyton, Mackenzie, Ethyn, Allexys, Kayla, Tessa, Dalton, Jayden and Jazmine; and sisters, Thelma McKenna and Charlotte Rose.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Roland; a son, Robert Pingree Sr.; a sister, Ester Knapp; and brothers, Elbridge and Floyd Buck.
Kay was loved by all and will be missed by many. “Always loved and never forgotten.”
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Elsmore-Dixfield Center; and an extra special thank-you to Dr. Callender, Nikki, Bonnie, Laura, the Rev. John Gensel, and many others, who made her final days more comfortable.
