DURHAM — The municipal election and annual town meeting will take place Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7.
Voters will assemble at the Durham Community School at 7:45 a.m. Friday and the meeting will be called to order at 8 a.m. A moderator will be elected and the meeting will adjourn to the polls for the election of officers. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
One selectman and two Budget Committee seats will be filled by write-in votes.
Seeking re-election are: longtime Tax Collector and Treasurer Pauline Paradis for one year; Terry Kirk for three years on the Budget Committee; and Candace Decsipkes for three years on the RSU 5 Board of Directors. All are unopposed.

Voting on the 49-article warrant will get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Community School.
Selectmen are proposing to spend $2,600,155, which is $37,969 more than this year’s budget. After subtracting revenues and other funds, it leaves $1,344,908 to be collected in local property taxes.
The Budget Committee is recommending voters spend $2,572,927, $10,741 more than this year.
The spending differences between selectmen and the Budget Committee are:
Officers’ salaries, Budget Committee recommends $191,471 and selectmen recommend $199,673 (no increase).
Fire and rescue capital improvement account, Budget Committee recommends $25,000; selectmen $30,000.
Roads, the Budget Committee recommends $351,628; selectmen 359,828.
The Budget Committee recommends raising $25,000 for legal fees and related expenses if the town approves a petitioned request to withdraw from RSU 5 at a special town meeting June 12.
Selectmen are making no recommendation.
Among the larger requests to be considered are: County tax $356,165; fire/rescue $246,026 (Budget Committee $240,000) roads $359,828 (Budget committee $351,828); capital projects $204,000; winter roads $637,643; solid waste $193,000; administration $145,219.
Voters will be asked to change the positions of tax collector and treasurer from elected to appointed, effective April 2013; and study the feasibility of the town creating a municipal public works department.
The following ordinances will be considered: disbursement to payroll and fees, Property Assessed Clean Energy, lock box, street signs and subdivisions. There are also articles on amendments to ordinances.
