RUMFORD POINT — A young Carthage woman was taken to Rumford Hospital with minor injuries, and a Rumford woman was summonsed to court on a charge of being a distracted driver as the result of a two-car collision Monday afternoon.
Rumford Sgt. Tracey Higley said Nitasha Fifield, 19, of Carthage, was driving her 2003 Pontiac sedan east on Route 2 when Kristie Boucher, 34, Rumford, was driving her 2002 Chrysler van west on Route 2 at 4:20 p.m.
Boucher was preparing to turn left onto Route 232. Higley said she was talking on her cell phone when the vehicles collided.
He estimated both vehicles sustained a total of $1,000 damage. Med-Care Ambulance Service took Fifield to the hospital with foot or leg injuries, according to Higley. A Rumford Fire Department rescue vehicle and an engine responded to the accident, along with several firefighters.
