FARMINGTON – A group of local volunteers, led by Kelley Cullenberg and her sister-in-law Sharon Cullenberg, is bringing the Hospice House 5K Run & Remembrance Walk to Farmington on Sunday, May 20. Kelley is the Mt. Blue boys and girls head cross country and spring track and field coach and Sharon is the call center manager at NotifyMD.
Both Kelley and Sharon, who have personally experienced a loved one’s care at the Hospice House, are coordinating the expansion of the event to their area. “I am very excited about the event because it is supporting an important cause,” said Kelley, Farmington event coordinator. “I am also excited about the course. It takes participants down Main Street and through residential neighborhoods. With a fast start and finish it has something for everyone.”
Proceeds from the event help support care for patients served at the Hospice House who do not have health insurance coverage. The Hospice House, located in Auburn, is owned and operated by Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.
In the past four years, more than 100 Franklin County residents and their families received care and support at the Hospice House. It is the only facility of its kind dedicated to providing specialized end-of-life care to residents in this area. In one year, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice provided more than $69,000 in care at the Hospice House to patients who did not have health insurance. Since no one is ever turned away because they do not have the ability to pay for care, support from the event is very important.
The event will take place on Sunday, May 20, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. The race and walk will start at 8 a.m. from Meeting House Park on Main Street. Parking is available at the movie theater parking lot. In addition to the 5K run and walk there will also be a Kids’ Fun Run. Remembrance balloons inscribed with the names of loved ones will line the awards area. Balloons may be dedicated for $10 each. There is no need to participate in the event to dedicate a balloon. Balloon registrations may be made online at www.ahch.org.
