FARMINGTON — A Ford Explorer with a stuck accelerator and faulty brakes struck three vehicles at the intersection of Main Street and Farmington Falls Road on Friday morning.

No one was injured in the 7:50 a.m. crashes, Farmington police Officer William Tanner said.

Michael Page, 30, of Farmington, was driving the 1999 Explorer west on Main Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto Farmington Falls Road under a green light, Tanner said. When he saw an oncoming car driven east on Main Street he tried to stop.

However, the accelerator stuck and the brakes weren’t working properly, Page said, sending the SUV into a 2008 Nissan Rogue driven by Lisa Gallant, 45, of Jay and over a traffic island.

A a 2011 Nissan Rogue driven by Theresa Haley, 40, of Farmington was stopped on Farmington Falls Road and Page tried to squeeze his SUV between it and the guardrail, Tanner said.

The Explorer rubbed the whole side of Haley’s car, took off the bumper and hit the guardrail on the other side, Tanner said. Two of its tires were blown as it headed up Farmington Falls Road, where it brushed a Chevrolet pickup driven by Daryl Hatch, 34, of Wilton, and hit a curb.

Page said at the scene that he tried to avoid hitting vehicles but was thankful no one was hurt.

Hatch and Haley were able to drive their vehicles from the scene.  Gallant’s and Page’s vehicles were towed from the scene.

Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene and closed part of the intersection for about an hour. Traffic traveling west on the Farmington Falls Road was diverted over Prescott Street.
