AUBURN — Jasmine Dyment will sing and present a spoken word piece, about being an outcast among a group of popular people, at the Auburn Public Library’s Teen Open Mic on Friday, April 20.

“Ever since I was a young girl, I have always dreamed of being a singer. By the time I was in fourth grade, I had joined the school choir and chamber choir, continuing through my sophomore year at Edward Little,” Dyment said. “This improved my singing but not my stage fright.”

Dyment, a senior attending Franklin School, said she gained confidence performing at the Teen Open Mics since seventh grade. She recently participated in a multiweek hip-hop spoken word workshop put on by the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries and Bates College.

The open mic is at 6 p.m. at the library at 49 Spring St. Admission is free. Teens are welcome to invite an older friend or relative to perform. For more information, call Sally at 333-6640, ext. 4, or email  [email protected].
