LIVERMORE FALLS — In honor of National Library Week, April 9-14, Treat Memorial Library is highlighting the fact that libraries are no longer just a collection of books. Based on staffing, physical space and budgeting, every effort is made to provide for the needs of patrons through every medium available. Services you may not have thought library-related are offered.

Treat Memorial Library offers magazines, DVDs, books and music CDs, and ebooks. If an item is not available, it can be borrowed through inter-library loan at no charge to the patron.

Public access computers allow anyone to conduct a job search, take online courses, trace their family roots or stay in touch with family and friends through email and other social network services. Wireless Internet access is free to anyone with their own computer.

Need to determine why your electric bill is so high? Kilowatt detectors are available for home use.

Planning a “stay-cation” this year? Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay has provided two free passes that may be checked out for one week.

Remember board games? Many games are available at the library. Bring in the family and have a game night.

As for programs, Story Time is every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. A knit/crochet group meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The Summer Reading Program is an annual event. All these programs are free and open to the public. To request other programs, patrons may speak with the director, Elaine Smith.

Using library services can save a lot of money. A patron who checks out only one magazine (average price $5) and one hardcover book (average price $25), will have saved $30, plus avoided having to find space to store them. How much does a computer cost, let alone the cost of Internet connection for a year?

Library cards are free to residents of Livermore Falls. Those who don’t live in Livermore Falls may still join for a small fee, less than the price of two magazines

The April calendar of events is available at the library. The Download Library is available by logging into the online catalog at treat.biblionix.com/atoz/catalog. A list of new items is available by clicking “See what’s hot.”
