HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A man who died in southern Maine last weekend after falling into the ocean had been accused in Connecticut of helping his 82-year-old father commit suicide last year.

Police in Maine say 57-year-old Bruce Brodigan of Somerville, Mass., died Saturday after he slipped off some rocks in Ogunquit and fell into the ocean.

Brodigan was charged last year in Connecticut with manslaughter and other crimes in the September 2010 death of his father, retired attorney George Brodigan. Authorities say George Brodigan had Alzheimer’s disease and his son helped him commit suicide with drugs and alcohol at his West Hartford home.

Police said Bruce Brodigan told them his father wanted to end his life before becoming incapacitated.

Assisted suicide is illegal in Connecticut, but a prosecutor dropped the case in December.
