POLAND — A local entertainer, Charles W. Plummer, will take on the role of the Maine Civil War hero, General Joshua L. Chamberlain, in a program for families at Ricker Library’s Check It Out!. The program, “The American Civil War and a House Divided: 1861 – 1865,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the library’s community room.
Impersonating Chamberlain, Plummer will give an overview of some of the major battles of the war and the role that Maine regiments played in those battles. He will highlight volunteers from Poland who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg and will tell about the support that the civilian population played in supporting the Union war effort.
Everyone is invited to the brown bag luncheon program. Guests may bring their own lunches. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. Since it is scheduled during the April school break, students are encouraged to attend.
