Dr. Alice S. Leader of New York City, widow of Dr. John A. Leader of Lewiston, was a passenger on the Titanic but, according to the wireless messages, is among the few hundred who are alive. For seven years Dr. Leader was a physician in Lewiston, working with her husband in the building up of a large practice. A letter from her received by her sister-in-law, Miss Nellie Leader, in Lewiston about two weeks ago stated that she intended to sail for home on the Titanic April 10th following three months of travel in Europe.
 
50 years ago, 1962
Charles Connor of Auburn, manager of the Poland Spring resort, said last night he could neither confirm nor deny reports that negotiations are under way for sale of the famous resort hotel establishment. At present the hotel is owned by a Washington, D.C., business group, Price Brothers. The hotel property has been in existence sine 1794 when the Mansion House was opened. The Poland Spring Hotel has been open since 1876 and Poland Spring water has been shipped around the world since 1845.

The City of Auburn has hired an appraiser to estimate the value of a Court Street lot that could be used for parking or an expansion of either city offices or the public library. The lot, which contains a vacated Mobil service station, abuts both the library lot and the side of the property of the City Building.
