LIVERMORE FALLS — A Jay man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after the car he was driving hit the Bank Building on Main Street.

Sgt. Steve Allen said police received a report of a single-vehicle accident at about 5:30 a.m. The 1998 Oldsmobile driven by Michael Grimaldi, 54, came down Route 133, continued on to Church Street, crossed the center line and went to the left of the traffic median in front of Foss Jewelry, Allen said.

The car then traveled across Main Street and struck the granite portion of the Bank Building, he said. It left some marks on the granite to the left of the Androscoggin Bank’s entrance doors.

Once the front passenger side of the car hit the building, the vehicle spun nearly 90 degrees to the left and came to rest in the parking spots further down in front of the building, Allen said.

Grimaldi was taken by a NorthStar Emergency Services ambulance to be checked out at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. The vehicle was damaged beyond repair, Allen said.
