I think it should be the law in all 50 states that we cannot text and drive because it kills a lot of people. I don’t think a call or text is worth dying for.

In 2008 alone, 6,000 people died and 500,000 ended up in the hospital from texting and driving in the United States. That is 6,000 too many dying from a simple text message. The other 500,000 are lucky they are still here and living. They should be thankful nothing worse happened to them.

I was surprised to see such large statistics, but it is believable because most people just don’t pay attention. I am not going to be one of those people.

On average, teens send 50 texts per day, according to a NPR news broadcast. One-quarter of teens surveyed actually admit to texting and driving, but some people don’t even admit it.

Most of these texts happen behind the wheel and more and more are going to occur there. When I have my license, I am not going to be one of those people who text and drive because it is not safe.

All these accidents are because of a phone. If people would turn off their phones or just not answer when they drive there would be fewer car accidents in this country.

That is why I think it should be against the law to text and drive in all the states of this country, not just in Maine.
