NORWAY – Election season is off to a slow start with only two candidates returning papers for the town’s annual balloting June 12.

Selectman Russ Newcomb has returned papers for a third term, Town Clerk Shirley Boyce said. Peter Toohey, who was appointed to fill an unexpired term for trustee of Norway Memorial Library has returned papers for that seat.

A second seat for library trustee, now held by Cynthia Reedy, is available.

There are also two seats on the Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors to be filled. The terms of Steve Cummings and Tim Ingram are expiring.

Dennis Yates said Wednesday he is seeking another three-year term as fire chief. The two assistant fire chiefs are appointed positions.

Nomination papers are available and must be returned to the town clerk’s office by April 30 for the candidate to be placed on the ballot. Candidates need a minimum of 25 registered voters to sign their nomination papers.

The annual town meeting is June 18.
