NEW SHARON — A Dixmont man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when a car struck his motorcycle at the intersection of Routes 2 and 27.
David Porter, 64, was taken by NorthStar ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital and then flown by LifeFlight medical helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center with leg injuries, Maine State Police Trooper Aaron Turcotte said.
Police said Porter appeared to have suffered compound leg fractures and head lacerations. He was not wearing a helmet.
Porter was driving his 2005 Harley-Davidson east on Route 2 at about 4 p.m. when Luanne Wren, 51, of Wilton was turning left off Route 27 onto Route 2, Turcotte said.
Wren did not see the motorcycle, Turcotte said. He said Porter tried to swerve to avoid her 2004 Nissan sedan.
Turcotte and off-duty Carrabassett Valley Police Chief Scott Nichols were talking in the parking area of Douin’s Market near the intersection when Nichols looked up to see the vehicle coming off Route 27 strike the motorcycle.
The motorcycle swerved, tipped and skidded across the road with the man’s leg between the bike and the pavement.
Both vehicles received significant damage and were towed.
No charges are pending, Turcotte said.
