100 years ago, 1912
 A villainous gang of hobos got out of town on Sunday, going to the east, and it is among the possibilities of the present situation in Lewiston that they knew something about the break at the home of Wallace H. White Jr. on Saturday night. On Friday afternoon two men were seen sitting on the ground beside the railroad tracks above the Riverside cemetery.

50 years ago, 1962
Auburn’s economic outlook was substantially bolstered today with the long-awaited announcement that the Dane-T-Bits Company, Inc., one of the major food distributing companies in the East, has chosen Auburn as a headquarters and the site of a 55,000-square-foot sprawling plant. The new industry, expected to be in operation by October, will create more than 100 new local jobs at that time and holds promise of offering substantially more employment as production increases and the facilities are expanded. The main building, to be built in an industrial area between the Poland Road and Washington Street, will be 560 feet long (nearly two football fields in length) and 76 feet wide.

25 years ago, 1987
A $44,000 repair job on the North Auburn dam will be totally funded by the federal and state governments, Water District. Supt. Normand R. Lamie said Monday. “This is fantastic news,” said Lamie. “I didn’t expect to get 100 percent funding, maybe 50 percent.” Between 25 and 35 feet of earth banking on the north side of the dam was washed out during the flood earlier in the month.
