A review of fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions will be followed by an introduction to algebra. An emphasis will be placed on solving multi-step word problems to prepare students for the rigors of college placement exams and college classes. How far students progress will be dependent on their skill base and a willingness to do assigned homework. Students will be expected to bring a notebook, pencils and a sense of humor.

College ready English: Although reading will be part of the curriculum, the main focus of this class will be improvement in the writing process. College writing is designed to expose students to the range of writing most likely to be encountered in the academic setting, and the skills most helpful in writing for all purposes. The course provides students with instruction and practice in writing clear arguments and expository prose. Emphasis is on the writing process, revising and editing. If time allows students will use the library to research a contemporary issue and use either the MLA or APA citation style to document sources.

College ready computers: In this computer class, students learn how to use software that most colleges expect students to know such as word processing, presentation and course management software. Twenty-first century literacy skills such as researching, communicating and collaborating will also be discussed. Participants should have basic computer skills.

The following academic courses of study are being offered. Call 897-6384 to register.

New student orientation: Sessions run for four consecutive days and will begin on April 30 and May 14. New students are required to complete one four-day session to enroll in adult basic education. During these sessions, students receive an overview of the RSU 73 Adult Education program and facilities. Students will take CASAS assessment to determine their learning levels and educational needs.
