Retired educators meet
OXFORD — On Friday, April 27, the Oxford County Retired Educators will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the culinary arts classroom of the Oxford Hills Technical High School with a program about poet H. W. Longfellow.
Perkins to be honored
PARIS — A public memorial service honoring musician and organist Forest Perkins will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the South Paris Universalist Church on Pine Street. A reception will follow.
Knitting Guild to meet
PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the First Congregational Church of South Paris.
The program will be a style show. Each member is to wear something she has made or an article knit for someone else.
Society topic: Popeye dolls
LOCKE MILLS — The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Historical building on Main Street.
Hugh “Cubby” Swan will do a program on the Popeye dolls that were made in Locke Mills at the Popeye shop years ago.
Universalist rummage sale
PARIS — A rummage sale to be held at the First Universalist Church of South Paris at 36 Pine St. from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 5.
Something for everyone with the sale of clothes, books, fabric, linens, dishes, shoes, “white elephant” items and a bag sale from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per large plastic bag, to be filled from items on the table.
Roast turkey dinner, pies
PARIS — A roast turkey dinner with all the fixings and homemade pies will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Deering Memorial Methodist Church at Main and Church streets. Ample parking is available behind the library and town office. The cost is $8 and $4 for children under 12.
Crafts, cuts, meal benefit Komen
PARIS — The Blisters for Sisters fundraising event will take place on Saturday, May 5, at the Paris Fire Station at Western Avenue. There will be a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A bean and hot dog lunch will be served for $5. Haircuts can be given by donation only by licensed barber Lee Ellingwood. Raffle baskets will also be available.
A spaghetti supper with garlic bread and salad will be at 5 p.m. Gluten-free pasta while supplies last. $8, $4 for children under 10. A dessert auction will follow the supper.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen three-day walk for the cure of breast cancer July 27-29. For more information call 890-0721 or 577-2260.
