LEWISTON — Opening-week results from Elliot Ave. Little League baseball:

Melanson Paving 6, Skelton, Taintor & Abbott 4: Melanson Paving started its 2012 campaign on a high note, defeating Skelton, Taintor & Abbott 6-4 behind the masterful pitching of Dalton Wing.

Melanson bats got hot early off Skelton starter Hayden Dumont. Wing and Damien St.Pierre both doubled in the first inning to post three runs.

Skelton answered with three of its own in the bottom of the inning, aided by singles from Jordan Dumont, Logan Freve and Hayden Dumont. Melanson responded with singles by Ben Gosselin, Evan Cox and Gabe Escobar to score three in the third.

Wing settled in on the mound, retiring eight of the next nine he faced before H. Dumont ripped a gap double and later scored to make it 6-4.

That that was all Skelton would muster. Ben St. Laurent later doubled down the right field line but was stranded on base.

Wing got the complete-game win, Freve suffered the loss for Skelton. St. Pierre had 3 RBIs for the winners. E. Cox and Escobar had one apiece. Melanson catcher Owen Cox gunned out three steal attempts on the day.

Anthoine Financial 5, Skelton, Taintor & Abbott 4: Anthoine was down 4-1 in the sixth inning and rallied for the win. Winning pitcher was Mitchel Frisbie, outdueling Jordan Dumont.

Melanson Paving 5, Elite Auto 3: On a cold, blustery Saturday morning, Melanson Paving was up to the task, handling Elite Auto 5-3 in come-from-behind fashion.

Elite got to starter Damien St.Pierre early in the second when Grant Hartley singled up the middle to open the frame. He then stole second base before Derek Foy got plunked in the thigh by a St. Pierre fastball. A passed ball and another steal later, both Hartley and Foy crossed the plate to make it 2-0 Elite.

Hartley, who drew the last-minute start for Elite, pitched three strong innings, striking out seven to open the game.

Elite plated another run in the bottom of the third despite having no hits. With the score 3-0 in favor of Elite, Melanson climbed right back into the thick of things as Dalton Wing singled to start the fourth.

Hartley ran into control issues, walking the next three before being lifted. He struck out eight on the day. Three runs scored in all to even the score at 3.

St. Pierre had two key strikeouts in the fourth to maintain Melanson’s momentum. Evan Cox took over in the bottom of the fifth and closed the door on Elite.

Still tied at 3 going into the top of the sixth, Wing walked before St.Pierre launched a bomb about 250 feet deep to left center field off reliever Jared Rubin, his first of the year, to give Melanson the 5-3 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Evan Cox took the win, with Rubin absorbing the loss. Melanson raised its record to 2-0. It was the opening game for Elite.

United Ambulance 10, Anthoine Financial 5: In the second Saturday tilt, the weather warmed up a bit as Anthoine hosted United at high noon.

Anthoine, winner of the season opener on Wednesday, came out  of the dugout confident as it took the field. Starter Mitchel Frisbie took the mound but struggled to find the strike zone early, allowing two baserunners before Kaleb Morrisette tripled and later scored, staking United to a 3-0 lead.

Morrisette toed the rubber for United, keeping Anthoine’s bats relatively quiet throughout the game while striking out 10. Brock Belanger and Frisbie had hits for Anthoine, while Isaac Atkins (double) and Marciano Webster each had hits for United. Nason Beaudoin snuffed out a bases-loaded rally by Anthoine with a great running catch in right field.

Morrisette got the win for United. Frisbie took the loss for Anthoine. United is 1-0, while Anthoine falls to 1-1.

Auburn Suburban

AUBURN — Austin Associates held off Auburn Fire Fighters 10-7 on opening day at ASLL Major League baseball behind 16 stolen bases for Austin.

Six of those steals were by Aaron Perkins, who also had one hit and three runs scored. Jake Arel contributed a single, triple and two RBI and Jayson Taylor had two hits and two runs to power Austin’s offense.

Christian Beliveau had two hits and two runs and Tyler Libby two hits and one run to fuel the Firefighters offense.

Marshall Chadbourne picked up the win on the mound for Austin Associates with relief help from David Oken and the save by Arel. Drew Bennett helped with a diving catch at second base. Beliveau had a strong outing for the Firefighters, firing six strikeouts.

South Lewiston

LEWISTON — Roopers opened the season by  scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally past Luiggi’s, 10-7, in South Lewiston Little League minorr division baseball.

Sebastian Cottie went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead Roopers. Isiah Smith and Kamron Bisson each went 2-for-2 with two walks to chip in. Smith scored three runs. Cottie had four strikeouts on the mound. Luiggis was led by Ben Dostie and Hunter Canny.
