EMS to check blood pressure

JAY — Northstar Emergency Medical Services ambulance personnel will be at the Jay Town Office office at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, to do blood pressure checks and then at 2 p.m. there will be a brief presentation on symptoms of stroke and heart attack.

There will be plenty of time for questions and it is open to anyone who would like to attend.

Isabellas resume socials

JAY — On April 25 the Daughters of Isabella Circle 677 from St. Rose of Lima held the first social of 2012. The tables were decorated with a spring setting. Maurie Shink and Betsy Fournier were the co-chairs of the social.

The ladies enjoyed a buffet meal with nine different pasta dishes, a tossed salad and Jell-o molds. Laurie Gagnepain won the door prize, a statue of the Virgin Mary with baby.

A+E gospel show May 6

SALEM — A+E’s Hill Country Music will wrap up their winter season with the annual gospel show on Sunday, May 6, at the Salem Community Building. Starting at 1:30 p.m., the group will lighten the hearts of attendees with their unique presentation of old favorites.

Refreshments will be on sale and a donation box will be at the door. Hosted by the Salem Pine Tree Club.

Library music event

PHILLIPS — The Phillips Public Library will present a rare musical evening, “Hometown Melodies: An Evening with Bianca Caruso & Friends,” from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Library Annex Building adjacent to the main library. Admission is free and any donations will be appreciated. All proceeds will benefit the libraries newest building plans.

Headlining the event will be former Phillips resident Bianca Caruso accompanied by Mike Reilly, of Hoots & Hellmouth, and Danielle Mulcahy.

The evening’s program will include musical performances for all ages, including classic country, folk, soul and pop songs as well as original material written by Caruso. Caruso’s freelance career includes touring nationally as backing vocalist for “Wicked” star Idina Menzel, performing in the Met Theater’s hit revival of “Hair” and collaborations with a growing list of Los Angeles’ and NYC’s up and coming talent. Recently, Caruso stepped into the limelight alone, with a new batch of songs which she performs at venues in her new home, New York City.
