Gov. Paul LePage’s public statement that state workers are “corrupt” requires this Maine citizen to respond.

LePage has disparaged an entire segment of Maine (state workers) with a serious allegation (corruption) and for which he presents no evidence, nor apparently intends to. That is a misuse of power, as he has done so in his official capacity as governor of the state of Maine.

An unconditional and sincere apology for those insulting and unsubstantiated statements is called for.

I have worked collaboratively with state workers and I have found them to be dedicated and hard-working individuals. If the governor knows of actual corruption, he is obliged to take appropriate action, as the state’s chief administrator.

The statements the governor recently made are unjustified and insulting to the citizens of Maine. The citizens of Maine have a right to a democratically-elected government free of those types of statements from its officials.
